Campbell urged to support Irish language

SINN FÉIN’S cultural spokesperson Francie Brolly MLA has said he believes that the North’s culture Minister, Gregory Campbell must show the same degree of commitment to the Irish Language as he has pledged to show to Ulster Scots.
Brolly’s comments followed a speech by Campbell at a reception hosted by the Ulster Scots Council.
At the reception Gregory Campbell said he believed the environment for the promotion of Ulster Scots is very promising.
“This may well be the case, but the Minister must also acknowledge that the environment and appetite for the promotion of An Gaeilge is vast across Ireland and throughout the world”, Francie Brolly said, adding:
“Initiatives such as An Ceathrú Gaeltachta are attracting cultural tourism and business investment like never before. The Minister should publicly indicate his active support for the promotion of the Irish Language and work to secure the rights and entitlements of Gaelgóirí through the introduction of an Irish Language Act.”
