Loyalists attack youth

The loyalist thugs who attacked a 16-year-old Catholic in the Alliance Avenue area of Ardoyne just before midnight on Saturday night 10 March were intent on killing him says Sinn Féin councillor Margaret McClenaghan.
16-year-old George Cairns was confronted by the loyalist gang as he walked along Alliance Avenue.
The gang, from the Glenbryn area, attacked George using an iron bar and were savagely beating him when a taxi driver came on the scene.
The youth’s mother, Angela Cairns, maintains that had the taxi driver not stopped the loyalists would have beaten her son to death. Ms Cairns went on to say that her son suffered severe head injuries in the incident.
Speaking to An Phoblacht Margaret McClenaghan was emphatic that the motive for the attack was sectarian and called on unionist politicians and community leaders to ensure that, “this attack does not lead to others”.
