Sinn Féin Upper Bann representative John O’Dowd has said that the Strategic Review of Parades will be judged against the a commitment to uphold the right to live free from sectarian harassment in the Good Friday Agreement.

British NIO Minster Paul Goggins issued the terms of reference for the Strategic Review of Parades on Friday, 2 February.

“Any review must be based on the terms laid out in Good Friday Agreement where it is clear that people should be able to live their lives free from sectarian harassment, whether in the home or in the areas where they live and work. We will judge not just the terms of reference but the review itself against this benchmark.

“These principles – the right to live free from sectarian harassment – were signed up to by all of the parties, including both the British and Irish governments.

“Sinn Féin will hold both governments to account in protecting the right to freedom from sectarianism and we will judge the review on these terms.”
