O'Connor family forced out

East Antrim Sinn Féin representative James McKeown says unionist politicians in Larne should be ashamed after local SDLP representative Danny O'Connor announced that he was leaving his home in the town after years of attacks and harassment.

"Danny O'Connor and his mother have been subjected to a quite disgraceful campaign of harassment and intimidation going back years," said McKeown. "We have heard fine words from local unionist politicians but the attacks continue, to the point where Danny O'Connor is being forced out.

McKeown said that this is nothing new for Catholics living in Larne, but that does not make it any more acceptable.

"If unionist political leaders in East Antrim can stand back and allow a high profile local nationalist like Danny O'Connor to be forced out then people have to reflect on the message that is sent to ordinary Catholics in the town," he said. "It is my view that local unionist leaders should be ashamed at the news that the O'Connor family have finally decided to leave their home."
