Volunteer Diarmuid O'Neill commemoration

1 October 2009

"In the weeks and months ahead we have the opportunity to show that the legacy of Diarmuid O'Neill, of Tony Ahern and Dermot Crowley, of Kilmichael and Crossbarry, remains alive in West Cork. Never before has the economic and moral bankruptcy of the political establishment been plainer." So said Bandon Sinn Féin Councillor Rachel McCarthy who spoke at the annual Diarmuid O'Neill commemoration at Timoleague Cemetery last Sunday. Diarmuid O'Neill was an unarmed IRA Volunteer who was shot dead in 1996 by London police in a flat while attempting to surrender. Free article
