Assembly team prepare for challenges ahead

SINN FÉIN's Assembly team in the North held its annual planning day in Gulladuff, County Derry on Monday. It follows a similar planning day held by the Leinster House team last week. Speaking from the meeting Assembly Group Leader, John O'Dowd said: "We are now half way through this Assembly term. Irish being brought forward for a new day - Ruane

SINN FÉIN Education Minister Caitríona Ruane attended the official opening of Cultúrlann Uí Chanaín in Derry last Friday. Cultúrlann Uí Chanaín in Great James Street, Derry, is a new purpose built Irish language, arts, cultural and enterprise centre comprising of classrooms, a youth club, a theatre, café and conference facilities. McGuinness pays tribute to Joe Hughes

Sinn Féin MP for Mid Ulster Martin McGuinness has today paid tribute to Joe Hughes, the father of IRA Hunger Striker Francis Hughes, who passed away earlier this evening aged 101. Mr McGuinness said: "I was greatly saddened when I heard the news this evening that Joe Hughes, father of former IRA Volunteer and Hunger Striker Francis Hughes had passed away. Free article

Sinn Féin Irish summer school

The second annual Sinn Féin summer school for Irish language enthusiasts took place in Glencolmcille from 22 to 29 August. The week-long course focuses on conversational Irish and caters for all levels from those without a word right through to fluent speakers. As well as catering for the Irish language the whole spectrum of Irish culture is evident from concerts, poetry, drama, all as Gaeilge right through to ceilí and sean-nós singing and dancing. These are amongst the things that are provided for every night after which most people retire to the local pubs where traditional music is available. Free article
