New cumann launched in Newbridge

The newly established Bob Doyle/Dinny Barry Sinn Féin cumann, Newbridge, Co. Kildare was officially launched on Saturday, 22 August. The night was very well attended, giving credence to local Sinn Féin activist Seán Downey's statement that they "have been overwhelmed with interest from the public wishing to join the local cumann". Ógra Shinn Féin protest at British naval vessel

Dublin Ógra Shinn Féin last week protested at the arrival of British naval vessel HMS Mersey in the port of Dublin. The vessel, armed with a 20mm cannon and two machine guns arrived on Wednesday 19 August and departed the next day. Free article

Historic meeting with son of 1916 leader

Fr. Joe McVeigh of Fermanagh, the well-known campaigner for human rights and Irish unity and independence recently met up with Fr. Joe Mallin SJ (aged 96) whose father Michael Mallin was in command of the Irish Citizen Army in St. Stephen's Green and the College of Surgeons in 1916. Free article

Bhí sí páirteach san fheachtas le tabhairt ar RTÉ tuilleadh cláracha Gaeilge a chraoladh; b'iomaí lá sa chúirt aici, agus thug sí a cás a fhad leis an Ardchúirt ar ócáid amháin. Chaith sí tréimhse sa phríosún in 1983 mar chuid den fheachtas ag daoine diúltú ceadúnas teilifíse a cheannach mar agóid faoina laghad cláracha Gaeilge a bhí ar RTÉ. Fógraí bháis: Jeff O'Neill

The Market community in Belfast and indeed the wider republican family lost a great friend with the death of Jeff O'Neill last May. Jeff passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer which he saw through with tremendous courage and immense dignity. Throughout his illness Jeff was determined to maintain his personal dignity and was adamant to the end that he would not be a "burden" on his family. Free article
