The newly established Bob Doyle/Dinny Barry Sinn Féin cumann, Newbridge, Co. Kildare was officially launched on Saturday, 22 August. Dublin Ógra Shinn Féin last week protested at the arrival of British naval vessel HMS Mersey in the port of Dublin. The vessel, armed with a 20mm cannon and two machine guns arrived on Wednesday 19 August and departed the next day. Free article

Fr. Joe McVeigh of Fermanagh, the well-known campaigner for human rights and Irish unity and independence recently met up with Fr. Joe Mallin SJ (aged 96) whose father Michael Mallin was in command of the Irish Citizen Army in St. Stephen's Green and the College of Surgeons in 1916. Free article

The Republican Movement in Derry lost a great friend with the death of Maureen Campbell on Saturday 1 August. Born in 1920 into a large republican family of 14 she grew up in the Waterside area of Derry City. The Market community in Belfast and indeed the wider republican family lost a great friend with the death of Jeff O'Neill last May. Jeff passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer which he saw through with tremendous courage and immense dignity. Throughout his illness Jeff was determined to maintain his personal dignity and was adamant to the end that he would not be a "burden" on his family. Free article
