Nigerian woman Pamela Izbekhai was released from Mountjoy Prison in Dublin last Monday 23 January. Pamela was arrested earlier in the month in County Sligo, after she went into hiding for five weeks to avoid a deportation order. Free article

It was with great sadness that I learnt of the death of Brendan (Basil) Doris last Thursday. An early morning phone call from his daughter Michelle to say her Daddy had died numbed me into a sense of shock. Basil had been a great friend, comrade and Council colleague to me. Free article

Schoolgirl victims of sectarian attack

A group of schoolgirls from North Belfast were attacked by a sectarian mob as they made their way to school through the loyalist Ballysillan area. The six teenagers from Ligoniel were kicked, spat on and had cans of lemonade poured over them by a gang from the Boys and Girls Model School as they made their way to Our Lady of Mercy Girls' Secondary School on Bilston Road on Monday 23 January.
