Benburb Priory in picturesque County Tyrone was the setting for this year's Coiste na n-Iarchimí organised youth camp. With over 70 young people, ranging in age from 15 to 25, attending from various parts of Ireland last weekend, the camp was a huge success. Free article

Conquering Black Mountain for the Colombia Three

• Hardy walkers took advantage of the good weather last Saturday to climb Black Mountain in Belfast in a sponsored event in aid of the Bring Them Home Campaign. The campaign wants to see the safe return to Ireland of Irishmen Niall Connolly Martin McCauley and Jim Monaghan, victims of a miscarriage of justice in Colombia who have not been heard from since a Colombian appeal court overturned their acquittals on charges of aiding FARC guerrillas. Council victories on Aer Lingus

Sinn Féin councillors in Dublin succeeded in building a cross-party coalition to oppose the proposed sale of Aer Lingus at Dublin City and South Dublin Council meetings on Monday evening. A hat-trick was only prevented when Fingal County Council ruled a motion from local Sinn Féin Councillor Felix Gallagher out of order on the basis that the proposed sale of Aer Lingus was not an 'emergency' in the local authority that contains Dublin Airport. SF motion on bins 'out of order' says City Manager

A motion on behalf of the Sinn Féin Group on Dublin City Council demanding the immediate refund of bin charges paid by householders in 2001-2002, recently declared illegal by the High Court, was ruled out of order at a meeting of the Council on Monday night. Free article

Huge turnout for Edinburgh Connolly commemoration

The recent annual James Connolly commemoration in Edinburgh, organised by the James Connolly Society in the city, attracted over 1,500 supporters. The theme of this year's event was 'Make Partition History' and the guest speaker was Derry Councillor Raymond McCartney. Free article

Mountmellick honours United Irishmen

16 June 2005

On Saturday 11 June, at Graigue Cemetery, Mountmellick, County Laois, there was a considerable attendance at the Sinn Féin commemoration of the eleven United Irishmen executed by British Forces in Mountmellick in 1798. The men had been captured by crown forces after a terrible battle outside Monasterevin, after which they were brutally tortured and then hanged in Mountmellick's Wolfe Tone Street, where a monument now stands in honour of their courage and sacrifice. Fianna Fáil rejects invite to re-unification debate

A debate on the re-unification of Ireland, with speakers from the SDLP and Sinn Féin, was held at Conway Mill, West Belfast on Tuesday night. Úna Gillespie of the West Belfast Economic Forum, which organised the event, criticised Fianna Fáil for refusing an invite to attend. Free article
