Nurses protest A&E overcrowding

A series of protests by the Irish Nurses' Organisation began on Tuesday, with action taken at Dublin's Mater Hospital, Cork University Hospital and Roscommon General. The protests are part of a campaign to highlight the continuing problem of overcrowding, which Minister for Health Mary Harney promised would be improved by March. Free article

Gama workers protest

Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan (pictured) joined over 300 Gama employees, who have been on work stoppage for over a week, as they protested outside the Dáil on Tuesday. The men are demanding government intervention in their dispute with Gama, which is accused of systematically underpaying and exploiting its workers, and the publication of a Department of Enterprise report on their working conditions. UDA internal feud escalates

Sources close to the UDA are warning of an internal power struggle within the loyalist paramilitary organisation. East Belfast UDA boss Jim Gray was ousted from his position last week and there is now speculation that UDA leaders in North and West Belfast, Andre Shoukri (pictured) and Jim Spence, are also under threat. Bradley and Attwood ignore resign calls

Policing Board vice chair Denis Bradley and the SDLP's Alex Attwood have said they will not resign from the Policing Board, despite a number of human rights groups expressing anger at the decision of the board to approve the PSNI's purchase of a new model of plastic bullet. Free article

Ógra day of protest

Republicans from all over Ireland took part in a nationwide day of action last Saturday. Members of Ógra Shinn Féin took to the streets in Belfast, Derry, Dublin, Omagh, Strabane, South Armagh, Down, Cork, Galway and Leitrim. The purpose of the protest was to remember the election of Bobby Sands MP in the constituency of Fermanagh/South Tyrone. Free article
