Shannon Airport must be demilitarised

Sinn Féin MEP for the Six Counties, Bairbre de Brún, has called for an end to the use of Shannon Airport as a staging area for US forces involved in the occupation of Iraq. She was speaking at a press conference in Dublin on Wednesday morning, called to announce a demonstration at Shannon on 13 November. The press conference was organised by the Peace and Neutrality Alliance (PANA), the NGO Peace Alliance and the Irish Anti-War Movement. Free article

The death has occurred of Sinn Féin Monaghan Town Councillor Gerry Loughran. Aged 60, Gerry died suddenly at his workplace on Tuesday 1 November. A native of Edendork, County Tyrone, Gerry had lived for many years in Monaghan. Free article

Huge turnout for republican fundraising dance

There was a massive crowd in Hope Castle, Castleblayney, County Monaghan last Friday evening for a special fund raising dance organised by the local Sinn Féin cumann. The night's entertainment was arranged in a bid to raise funds for a memorial to be unveiled on the 30th anniversary of the death of IRA Volunteer John Francis Green next year. Free article
