Sinn Féin begins legal challenge to IMC report

On Tuesday 15 June Sinn Féin began proceedings in the High Court in Belfast seeking a judicial review of British minister Paul Murphy's decision to block financial assistance to the party on the back of the April report by the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) on paramilitary activity. Groogan elected Chair of Magherafelt District Council

Sinn Fein's Patsy Groogan has been elected Chairperson of Magherafelt District Council. The longserving councillor and GAA stalwart from Ballinascreen was nominated by party colleagues at the council's Annual General Meeting at The Bridewell. This is his second term in the office, having previously made history by being elected as Sinn Féin's first chair of the council. Free article
