Scappaticci launches libel action

Community support needed to combat anti-social behaviour

Sinn Féin Councillor Brendan Curran has challenged the effectiveness of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOS) which has been proposed as a new method in dealing with anti-social behaviour in the community. "On Thursday I attended a meeting of the "Housing Council" during which it was proposed that ASBOS would be an effective method of dealing with anti-social activity in the Six Counties," said Curran. Ógra Shinn Féin push for All-Ireland elections

Ógra Shinn Féin is to launch a nationwide campaign calling for voting rights to be extended to citizens in the Six Counties for the Irish presidential election. The campaign will be formally launched by Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly, at Ógra Shinn Féin's National Congress in Dublin this Saturday. Free article

Residents message clear 'No more Spy posts'

Around 100 people took part in a protest outside Divis Tower in West Belfast on Saturday 10 January to highlight the issue of state collusion in the killing of nationalists and to calling for the demilitarisation of the British Army spy posts situated on top of the Tower Block. Newly-elected West Belfast Sinn Fein Assembly member Fra McCann joined residents at a camp out organised by Ógra Shinn Féin on Friday night 9 January and added his voice to the calls for the immediate removal of the spy posts. Special needs youngster arrested

A 14-year-old West Belfast schoolboy with special needs was arrested by the PSNI on his way to school on Tuesday 6 January and taken for questioning at Strandtown PSNI station in East Belfast. The boy was arrested following an incident when a plastic bottle was thrown at a PSNI armoured Land Rover as it drove along Brittons Parade. Free article
