IN HIS BOOK Don’t Mention the War: Northern Ireland, Propaganda and the Media, David Millar writes: “The propaganda war . . . attracts much less attention than its shooting counterpart but it is arguably the more crucial part of the conflict – the battle for hearts and minds.” The murals of artists like Danny Devenny and Marty Lyons are still an effective and colourful way of engaging people about social issues, culture, history and struggle.

MAUREEN AND LEO WILSON would like to express their sincere thanks to all who organised and attended the surprise republican version of 'This is Your Life' in which we were the central players. Our thanks to the republican family, Belfast, for the magnificent bronze harp and flowers. Thanks also to the Roddy McCorley Society for the beautiful gift of Belfast Crystal. Thanks to our friend Der for his bouquet of flowers and a touching letter. We must also give our special thanks to Gerry Adams TD who compered the 'This is Your Life' programme. Finally, we thank all our family and friends for their good wishes. Go raibh chead míle maith agaibh — Leo and Maureen Wilson.

THE 20th anniversary of the summary execution of IRA Volunteer Pearse Jordan was marked in west Belfast on Sunday 25 November, the exact date of his death, by a parade through the Upper Springfield and Ballymurphy areas where he lived. A plaque in honour of the 22-year-old Volunteer was also erected on his family home as part of the commemorations. His mother and father, Teresa and Hugh, unveiled the memorial stone watched by a huge crowd including the many republican flute bands who were competing in the annual Pearse Jordan Band Competition.
