THE 'Irish Community Election Manifesto', Irish Votes Count, was launched in the House of Commons in Westminster last week in front of an audience including British Government ministers, MPs, peers and election candidates from the three main parties. The manifesto is another initiative of the Federation of Irish Societies (FIS), the umbrella group for Irish groups and centres in Britain, in encouraging Irish people to register to vote in their local area and making sure their votes are not wasted.

TWO TDs who secured the support of 25 Oireachtas members for an objection to the proposed Chartered Land development on Dublin's Moore Street have called on Environment Minister John Gormley to use his powers under legislation covering national monuments to stop the development, now approved by An Bórd Pleanála, which will irreparably damage this national site.

Morgan wants investigation into diligence of Ernst & Young auditors

THE Sinn Féin spokesperson for Finance, Arthur Morgan TD, has officially called for a formal investigation into the actions of Ernst & Young Auditors. In letters to both the Irish Auditing & Accounting Supervisory Authority and the Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board, Morgan questioned the diligence of Anglo Irish Bank's former auditors, Ernst & Young.

THE Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) on Saturday staged the latest in a series of actions aimed at highlighting French multinational and LUAS operator Veolia's complicity in Israel's apartheid regime. For two hours the IPSC took over the St Stephen's Green LUAS stop, decking the area in Palestinian flags, balloons and placards. Thousands of information leaflets were distributed.

THE Colm Dalton cumann of Sinn Féin in NUI Maynooth has raised the impressive sum of €1,071.45 for Concern's Haiti disaster fund at a function in County Kildare. The decision was made to amalgamate the annual function before Easter Week with an event that could make a difference, thus the 'The Shinner Shave' was born with beards decimated, long hair being shaved and legs and chests waxed, as well as music and entertainment provided.
