McGuinness speaks at British Labour Party Conference 
Sinn Féin Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness this week addressed a fringe event at the British Labour Party Conference in Brighton. As part of a wide ranging speech McGuinness challenged the rejectionists on all sides and warned that progress on transferring powers on policing and justice was crucial in the time ahead. RUC Special Branch officers who did not prevent the murder of 26-year-old Margaret Perry in order to protect an informer have escaped prosecution despite a damning report by former Ombudsman Nuala O'Loan. The body of the Portadown woman was discovered in a shallow grave in a County Sligo forest in 1992, a year after she had gone missing. Perry was abducted and murdered by three British agents within the IRA after she discovered they had been involved in a criminal robbery. THE Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has announced a rolling campaign of resistance to cuts in workers' wages, conditions and jobs as some of the country's largest unions ballot their members on industrial action as part of a campaign to defend jobs and services. Concern for safety of 3,500 Iranians in Camp Ashraf IRANIAN EXILES in cities across the world are continuing their protests aimed at highlighting the plight of members of the People's Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI), besieged in Camp Ashraf, Iraq, since 28 July. Concern for the safety of the 3,500 inhabitants of the camp arose after the attack carried out on Ashraf by the Iraqi armed forces on Tuesday 28 July which led to the killing of 11 Iranian exiles and the wounding of many more. Labour Court backs Coca-Cola workers, Worldwide dockers back Dublin Port strikers and Bank staff strike Battle for the Americas in Honduras THE daring return of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, deposed in a military coup on 28 June, to the capital Tegucigalpa on 21 September has galvanised the country's resistance movement and prompted the coup leaders to unleash a fierce wave of military repression. Zelaya remains under siege in the Brazilian embassy with his family and dozens of his supporters. The coup regime, headed by Roberto Micheletti who installed himself as "president" after organising the kidnapping at gunpoint and exile to Costa Rica of the country's elected president, responded to Zelaya's return by deploying the police and military against thousands of protesters, resulting in an unknown number of deaths and thousands of detentions. A BIG congratulations to all those who stepped up to the mark for the Brian Keenan Annual Mountain Challenge on Saturday 5 September. Out of 186 participants, 183 completed the challenge from Bloody Bridge, Newcastle, Co. Down right over Donard Mountain, the highest peak in the Six Counties and on to Deer's Meadow which was a gruelling 16.5 kilometres. Bogside and Brandywell Republican Monument rededicated 
A large crowd attended the unveiling of a new commemorative stone and rededication ceremony at the Bogside and Brandywell Republican Monument on Sunday last organised by the Derry Republican Graves Association. Never before has the economic and moral bankruptcy of the political establishment been plainer." So said Bandon Sinn Féin Councillor Rachel McCarthy who spoke at the annual Diarmuid O'Neill commemoration at Timoleague Cemetery last Sunday. Diarmuid O'Neill was an unarmed IRA Volunteer who was shot dead in 1996 by London police in a flat while attempting to surrender.
