Sectarian attack on Dublin youth footballers
A GROUP of young Dublin soccer players were subjected to a sectarian attack in Coleraine, County Derry this week. A sectarian mob fired stones and bottles and chanted 'Fenian bastards' at the players. The attack and its fallout have led to demands for the resignation of a public relations officer for the Milk Cup after he described the attack on the two Dublin youth teams as "drink fuelled". ON Friday 25 July the Sinn Féin Mayor of Belfast Tom Hartley opened the "Kids Space" in the St James area of West Belfast. Local communty activists reclaimed what was an area of overgrown, derelict land near the Bog Meadows Nature Reserve, and transformed it into the 'Kids Space'. SOCIAL PARTNERS involved in pay talks in the 26 Counties have failed to reach agreement on the issue of collective bargaining, a worrying lack of development for the trade unions with the talks in their final week. If agreement on collective bargaining was reached, employers would have to recognise trade unions in workplaces where the workers want it.
