THE 65 workers previously employed at the Ballymun Plaza Hotel in Dublin are continuing their efforts to flag up the handling of job creation by the Ballymun Regeneration Project through protests and by gathering a petition with 5,500 local signatures which calls for the reopening of the hotel.

Basque Youth Delegation to Tour Ireland

A delegation of Basque youth will be touring Ireland next week. The group, hosted by Ógra Shinn Féin will be engaged in a number of public meetings, and will also use the mobilisation to learn of the Peace Process in Ireland.

Bobby Sands remembered in his home area

On Monday, 5 May, the 27th anniversary of the death of republican Hunger Striker Bobby Sands, over 200 people attended a white line picket in memory of the 1981 Hunger Strike leader and former MP for Fermanagh/South Tyrone in his home area of Twinbrook in Belfast. The demonstration on the Stewartstown Road was organised by Colin Sinn Féin and coincided with the launch of a new Sinn Féin cumann in the area - the Rooney/Farrell/Sands Cumann

1981 Hunger Strike Commemorated in Limerick City

On the Anniversary of the death of Bobby Sands on Monday 5 May a crowd of more than 30 Limerick republicans gathered at the 1916 memorial on Sarsfield Bridge. The commemoration to remember Bobby Sands and the nine other 1981 Hunger strikers has been held continuously in Limerick City on the 5 May since the Hunger Strike in 1981.

A debate on the Lisbon Treaty between Sinn Féin Dublin MEP Mary Lou McDonald and Labour Party TD Joanna Tuffy in the Spa Hotel in Lucan on Tuesday, 29 April was attended by a local crowd and the debate was recorded by Liffey Sound FM to be aired in early June just before polling in the referendum. A further encounter between the two political representatives is scheduled for the Neilstown Community centre in Clondalkin on Tuesday 13 May.

Remembering Ballymurphy Volunteers

AS PART of a five year plan to commemorate and celebrate the lives of deceased Volunteers from the Ballymurphy area of West Belfast The Remember Our Volunteers Committee has organised a number of events aimed at remembering two young men who were killed by the British army.
