Sinn Féin promotes wearing of Easter Lily

SINN FÉIN has made a major effort this year to promote the wearing of the Easter Lily to celebrate the memory of the 1916 Easter rising and to further popularise the cause of Irish unity. Last week the party's four TDs and Senator Pearse Doherty launched a country-wide Easter Lily campaign. Over the Easter period, Sinn Féin activists are distributing more than 100,000 leaflets, while Easter commemorations will take place across the country.

'Latest attack on Monaghan Hospital must be resisted'

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson and Cavan-Monaghan TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has learned that the Ventilation Unit at Monaghan General Hospital is to close on 7 April. Stating that this would be "another grievous blow to healthcare provision in this region", Deputy Ó Caoláin called on people to mobilise to resist the closure. He stated:

ESRI predicts slowest economic growth in 20 years

SINN FÉIN'S Economic Affairs spokesperson in the Dáil has challenged Finance Minister Brian Cowen to spell out what action his government will take in answer to last week's Quarterly Economic Commentary by the Economic and Social Research Institute which predicts that the 26-County economy is set to grow at its slowest pace for 20 years.

Sinn Féin lodges agency workers' council motion in every county

Sinn Féin TD and Economic Spokesperson Arthur Morgan has launched a council motion on agency workers that will be lodged in local authorities in every county in the 26 Counties over the coming weeks. Morgan was joined by Louth Councillors Jim Loughran and Tomás Sharkey who controversially lodged a similar motion last month.

SPEAKING at last weekend's fifth annual commemoration of IRA Volunteer Keith Rogers, Louth County Councillor Tomás Sharkey reminded the large attendance of the words of the highly respected Irish republican, Brian Keenan, who, speaking on the first anniversary of the death of the young IRA man, stated:

Caoimhín Mac Brádaigh remembered

A wreath laying ceremony in memory of IRA Volunteer Caoimhín Mac Brádaigh took place at Meenaleck, Gaoth Dobhair, County Donegal on Sunday 16 March. Mac Brádaigh was killed along with John Murray and Thomas McErlean during a unionist paramilitary gun and bomb attack at Milltown Cemetery on the 16 March 1988 during the funerals of the Gibraltar Three. The three men bravely sought to prevent the attacker from injuring or killing others in the cemetery.

Dundalk remembers Gibraltar Three

The 20th anniversary of the deaths of the Gibraltar Three, Mairéad Farrell, Dan McCann and Seán Savage was marked in Dundalk when hundreds of people marched by candlelight from Dundalk Shopping Centre to Bridge Street.
