North-South Ministerial meeting on inland waterways

Sinn Féin Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy accompanied DUP Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure Edwin Poots at a North-South Ministerial Council meeting with Éamon Ó Cuív TD, Minister for Community, Rural Affairs and Gaeltacht Affairs at an Inland Waterways Sectoral meeting at Slieve Russell near Ballyconnell County Cavan on Wednesday. It was the first North-South Inland Waterways sectoral meeting since the restoration of the political institutions of the Good Friday Agreement.

Doherty lobbies for transfer

Sinn Féin Vice President and West Tyrone MP Pat Doherty has been engaged in a intensive series of meetings with MPs from all of the main political parties in Britain this week to lobby for the free transfer of vacated British military sites to the Six County Executive. Doherty wants to see British Ministry of Defence (MoD) sites at Lisanelly and St Lucia in Omagh, County Tyrone taken over and used for social and economic regeneration in the region west of the River Bann.

SINN FÉIN has confirmed that Felix Gallagher has decided to stand down as Councillor from Fingal County Council. Gallagher cited family commitments as the sole reason for his decision. Tuesday 16 October marked the 15th Anniversary of leading Sinn Féin activist Sheena Campbell. A unionist paramilitary death squad murdered Campbell as she socialised with friends at the York Bar, in the University area of South Belfast. She was studying at Queens University.

Belfast Republican Graves remembered in commemorative booklet

THE sterling work of the National Graves Association has been marked in a pamphlet launched in Belfast on Tuesday, 30 July. The pamphlet launch, which took place in the Felons Club, was attended by members of the committee and was addressed by former POW Paddy McCotter.

IN NOVEMBER 1957, during the IRA's 'Border Campaign', five men were killed in an explosion that demolished a small cottage at the foot of Edentubber Mountain in County Louth, close to the border with the Six Counties.
