Nurses' dispute 40,000 work-to-rule
Sinn Féin Dáil leader and spokesperson on Health and Children Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has called on the 26 County Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney to intervene directly to help to resolve the nurses' dispute. He said the Minister had failed to ensure that the long-standing need for a 35-hour week for nurses was met by the health service employers. Memorial Garden : Sacrifice of republican women honoured
An ambitious project to build a memorial garden to honour the women of Ireland who have dedicated their lives to the struggle for freedom is well under way. Photo: Sinead Moore and Sue Ramsey MLA with an engraved sandstone paving stone donated for the new Women's Memorial Garden being built in Belfast by Macalla na mBan in memory of women who dedicated their lives to the struggle for Irish freedom 35th anniversary of Volunteers' deaths in Bawnmore On 7 April 1972, just after two o'clock in the afternoon, the small nationalist estate of Bawnmore, on the fringes of North Belfast, was rocked by an explosion in a row of garages in Bawnmore Grove. The premature explosion claimed the lives of three young IRA Volunteers - John (Jackie) McErlean, Samuel Hughes and Charles McCrystal - members of 'E' Company, 3rd Battalion, Belfast Brigade Óglaigh na hÉireann.
