International: Deep divisions in México On 20 November, left-wing presidential candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, took the oath as Mexico's alternative president. On 1 December, Felipe Calderon, who the electoral court declared had won the controversial election by less than one percentage point, will take up his position as official President. The presence of 'two presidents' symbolises the deep divisions existing in México. Loughinisland Justice Group in Brussels Members of the Loughinisland Justice Group visited the European Parliament in Brussels this week to seek the support of MEPs and EU officials in relation to their complaint to the Police Ombudsman in relation to the role of police informers and the failure to investigate the Loughinisland atrocity and bring the murderers before a court. The Shell to Sea campaign this week welcomed the support of Norwegian Trade Union SAFE while condemning RTE's biased coverage of the Corrib pipeline dispute. Terje Nustad, leader of SAFE, the main confederation of oil and gas industry workers in Norway representing 7,000 industry personnel in Norway carried out a three-day fact finding visit to North Mayo and addressed Shell to Sea's national meeting on Saturday and a local community meeting on Sunday. VHI's victory in the High Court in Dublin last week over BUPA is a welcome slowing of private sector entry into Irish healthcare but it does little for customers of VHI. Even with the High Court decision in its favour VHI premiums are still set to rise by 15% annually for the next three years. VHI subscriptions will rise 12.5% in 2006. Despite the inclement weather a large number of people turned out for the launch of a new Sinn Féin Cumann in Camolin, County Wexford on Sunday 19 November. The launch was combined with a commemoration ceremony to honour Volunteer Dick Humes after whom the Cumann is named. Humes fought on the anti Treaty side during the civil war. Two of his nieces Rita Henshaw and Henrietta Prickat nee Hume, travelled over from Manchester for the event. His niece Eileen Conway nee Hume is a resident of Camolin.
