Sectarian graffitti was daubed on the door of Our Lady's Catholic Church at Harryville in Ballymena in the early hours of Monday 10 July. 'Fuck the Pope' was painted across the front door of the church while fencing around the church was painted red, white and blue. Sinn Féin Assembly member Philip McGuigan called on unionist polticians to speak out against the attacks.

The annual 12 July parade to Drumcree church passed off quietly with fewer Orangemen and less then a hundred supporters gathering on the hill. Speaking during a brief protest Orange Order district master David Burrows insisted that the protest would continue until they were allowed to parade through the nationalist Garvaghy Road.

Adams offers sympathy following London attacks

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams condemned the bomb attacks in London last Thursday. Adams sent a message of sympathy and solidarity to the British Prime Minister Tony Blair and to the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone.

Mary Lou voices concern over human trafficking

Mary Lou McDonald MEP for Dublin

Concern has increased this week about links between the sex industry in Ireland and human trafficking. Voluntary organisation Ruhama, which offers support to prostitutes in Ireland, said this week that it met or supported 91 women trafficked into the country to work in the sex industry. Sinn Féin MEP for Dublin Mary Lou McDonald has added her voice to the call for greater resources to tackle the problem.

PSNI blamed for Derry trouble

Donncha Mac Niallais of the Bogside Residents Group has said the blame for the trouble that broke out as local Orangemen returned from a parade in Derry has to be laid firmly at the feet of the PSNI.

Lies and cynicism at Sunday World

The Sunday World this week published another tissue of lies aimed at Sinn Féin. The Garda's pet hack Paul Williams, notorious for his fabrication of countless, groundless stories designed to damage the party and who lacks any credibility as a serious journalist was given free reign by the Sunday World to once again make wild allegations. As usual he quoted liberally from 'unnamed sources'.

Sinn Féin's Leinster House team last week engaged in a detailed strategic planning meeting in County Monaghan. The attendance included the party's Dáil Leader, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, Leinster House Whip Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, and TDs Martin Ferris, Arthur Morgan Seán Crowe and their support staff.
