Sinn Féin Lagan Valley Councillor Paul Butler says people in Twinbrook are outraged by an attack on the new GAA Club in the area by the SDLP's Patricia Lewsley. Lewsley was reported in the Irish News on Wednesday as saying that the club logo is "inappropriate". Commenting on reports that the British Secretary of State Paul Murphy is to meet with the UDA early next week, Sinn Féin National Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin said that he must make it clear to the loyalists that attacks have to end. Louth Council wants Brit mast felled A Sinn Féin motion slamming the building last Christmas of a British Army mast at Forkhill, on the border of Armagh and Louth, has been passed at the October meeting of Louth County Council. A proposal by Longford Town Council officials to install electric storage or oil-fired heaters in local authority housing stock, without giving residents the option of upgrading their existing heating systems, has been slated by Sinn Féin Councillor Jimmy McDonnell. Unions attack decision to cut 150 jobs This week, representatives from the Seamen's Union of Ireland will meet with Sinn Féin TDs in an effort to solve the problems following ongoing benchmarking at Irish Ferries. A memorial was unveiled earlier this month to IRA Volunteer Michael Hughes, from Derrybeg, Newry, who was shot dead by the British Army 30 years ago. The very popular young man was just 16 years old when he died in extremely brutal and controversial conditions. Due to the phenomenal growth of Sinn Féin in the last elections, a new Comhairle Ceantair structure has been created for County Galway. The party will now operate along the constituency lines of Galway East and Galway West. Ógra Shinn Féin held its National Demilitarisation Conference on 22-24 October in Omagh. Young Republicans from all over Ireland were in attendance, with Counties such as Leitrim, Meath, Louth, Galway, Monaghan, Dublin, Waterford, Donegal, Derry and Antrim represented. There were also a large number of Ógra's international comrades in attendance, namely the Galician and Catalonian youth movements, along with comrades from the USA and England. Cumann na Fuiseoige, the new GAA club which was launched in Twinbrook, West Belfast on Saturday 23 October, was inspired by Bobby Sands. Scoil na Fuiseoige, built on the site of the first Twinbrook Residents Association office established by Bobby Sands, takes it's name from Sands' story - written while he was on the Blanket protest - of The Lark and The Freedom Fighter. Lark is the English word for fuiseog. |
