Special Branch gave loyalists murder weapon

Special Branch officers gave a gun to the UDA that was later used in six murders, a report delivered to the British Government by Judge Cory will reveal. A Browning 9mm pistol used in six loyalist killings was in the possession of Special Branch for two weeks before it was handed back to the UDA.

Adams book ad banned again

A radio advertising campaign for Gerry Adams' new book, Hope and History; Making Peace in Ireland, has been banned by the broadcasting authorities in Ireland. The book was published at the end of September and went immediately to number one in the bestsellers. This is the third occasion on which Adams' publisher, Brandon Books, has sought to advertise books by Gerry Adams on radio, and the third occasion on which the advertisements have been banned.

City Council backs Presidential voting rights

Sinn Féin Councillor Larry O'Toole has welcomed the unanimous support of Dublin City Council for his motion calling for Presidential voting rights for Six-County residents. This follows the passing of a motion by Newry and Mourne District Council earlier this year, asking councils throughout the island to support the extension of the franchise.

Domestic violence highlighted

• As part of the 16 Days of Action Against Violence against Women, The Dodder Youth Service and the Ringsend Action Project joined with the North Wall Women's Centre on Tuesday to cast flowers into the River Liffey. The event was organised in memory of those women who have fatally suffered as a result of domestic violence in the past

Ferris draws lessons of history at Kilmichael

Up to 1,000 people attended the 83rd anniversary of the famous Kilmichael Ambush last weekend. Kerry TD Martin Ferris was the main speaker and he delivered a passionate address, lauding the Volunteers of the IRA's Third Cork Brigade, under the command of Tom Barry, who struck one of the most devastating blows against the Crown Forces in the Tan War.

Anger at Bin Charge increase

Sinn Féin organised a picket at the Thomas Street/Meath Street junction in Dublin on Saturday to protest plans by City Hall to increase the bin charges by a massive 23%. Sinn Féin's Andrew O'Connell said he was angry but not surprised at this massive increase.

High profile loyalist released on bail

Sinn Féin Assembly member for North Belfast, Kathy Stanton has accused the judiciary in the Six Counties of operating a system of "blatant discrimination". Her comments came as Ihab Shoukri became the latest high-profile loyalist to be granted bail on serious charges.

Only hours before polling stations throughout the Six Counties were due to open, a unionist mob surrounded a pub in Dunmurry village in an attempt to intimidate Catholic voters. On the evening of 25 November, a group of more than 50 loyalists prevented customers inside the Motte and Bailey pub from leaving, forcing terrified locals to remain inside.

Leinster EU Convention in Gorey

Sinn Féin's Leinster EU Selection Convention will take place at 11am in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, County Wexford, this Sunday, 7 December. Following the second Nice Treaty referendum and the consequent reduction in the number of Irish MEPs to be elected to future European Parliaments, the Leinster constituency has been reduced from a four-seater to a three-seater constituency and is now to be known as the 'East' constituency.

Ógra Shinn Féin joins National Youth Council

The Sinn Féin youth wing last week received a significant boost when the National Youth Council of Ireland accepted its application to join the umbrella organisation. The National Youth Council decided at their annual general meeting, held in Limerick last weekend, to accept Ógra Shinn Féin as delegates to their organisation.
