Supermarket chains are engaged in a milk price war

The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Agriculture, Martin Ferris TD, has attacked the threat by dairies to cut the price it pays for milk bought from farmers, due to the milk war between the major retailers. Dunnes, Supervalu and Tesco are currently engaged in a price war that has seen the price of own-label milk cut to 99c per two litres.

IAUC Convention honours Oliver Kearney

The 20th Anniversary Irish American Unity Conference National Convention was held in New York from 17-19 October. This year's convention was dedicated to the legacy and memory of civil rights activist Oliver Kearney, who passed away on 24 July. Oliver's son, Jarlath Kearney, gave a touching account of his father's life and love for Ireland.

Keenan honoured at Derry Volunteers' function

Derry Volunteers Commemoration Committee held its Annual Dinner Dance in the City Hotel, Derry, last Saturday 28 October. As is customary at this event, Derry republicans each year honour an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the struggle for freedom, justice and peace in Ireland. This year's recipient was lifelong Belfast republican Brian Keenan.

The National Graves Association (NGA), which is refurbishing the Republican Plot in Milltown Cemetery in Belfast and adding a wall of remembrance dedicated to fallen Volunteers from Belfast, is appealing for donations to cover the cost of construction.

Republican bikers wanted

For all republican motorcycle fans, the newly set-up Saoirse Motorcycle Club should take your fancy. The organisers say the club, which is intended to organise across the 32 Counties, has a distinctly republican ethos. They are hoping for sufficient support to organise a large motorcycle rally next summer.
