Sinn Féín condemns attacks in Belfast and Fermanagh

SINN FÉIN has condemned those involved in attacks in two separate violent incidents in the North last weekend. A bomb exploded at the headquarters of the Policing Board and shots were fired in County Fermanagh. A 400lb bomb partially exploded after a vehicle broke through a barrier outside the headquarters of the North's Policing Board in Belfast on Saturday. Nobody was hurt. Free article

Maskey and Ó Donnghaile to run in South and East Belfast

Sinn Féin activists gathered in South Belfast on Tuesday night where they selected Alex Maskey as the party's candidate for South Belfast and Niall Ó Donnghaile for East Belfast in the forthcoming Westminster election. Both candidates were selected unopposed. Speaking after the convention, Alex Maskey MLA said, "Firstly I want to thank friends and comrades, activists and supporters, who came out to select me as their candidate for the next Westminster election. I will be fighting this election on an abstentionist ticket. Free article

De Brún and Quinlivan welcome justice for Dell workers

Flood damage: legacy of Fianna Fáil's cosy relationship with developers

THE extent of flood damage in housing estates across the 26 Counties is a legacy of Fianna Fáil's cosy relationship with developers throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Sinn Féin Environment spokesperson Martin Ferris TD said. He said the Government should rehouse or compensate those people whose homes were built on flood plains and have now been ruined by floodwater. Free article

Keep Christmas bonus to stop moneylenders

THE Christmas social welfare bonus should be reinstated to relieve the added pressure on families at this time of year and stop some being forced into the grasping clutches of moneylenders, Sinn Féin Social and Family Affairs spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh has said. Fine Gael plan means social welfare cuts

FINE GAEL'S proposal to cut employers' PRSI contributions is "irresponsible and misguided" and would lead to social welfare being slashed, Sinn Féin Social and Family Affairs spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has said. "Cutting employers' PRSI contributions will result in less money going into the social insurance fund from which social welfare is paid. This will obviously lead to social welfare being slashed. Recession deters people from visiting doctor

ALMOST one in four people admitted they are more reluctant to visit a health care professional due to the cost and the effects of the recession, according to a new survey. And one in five unemployed people have cut back on visits to the doctor and prescription medicines. Free article

Tribute to Ivan Barr and Charlie McHugh a memorable occasion

OVER 300 people attended a tribute function in memory of deceased Strabane District Sinn Féin Councillors Ivan Barr and Charlie McHugh at the Mellon Country Hotel on Saturday night. Following the meal a minute's silence was observed as a mark of respect for Winnie Harte (mother of Volunteers Gerard and Martin Harte, who were killed at Drumnakilly) who had passed away early on Saturday morning. Na Fianna Anniversary marked in Dublin

A commemorative event in Dublin to mark the 100th Anniversary of Na Fianna Éireann last Saturday night saw was a good attendance from Sinn Féin, Ógra Shinn Féin and former members of the republican youth organisation. The event, organised by the Dublin Republican Commemoration Committee was addressed by former Fianna members, Críona Ni Dhálaigh now a Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor and Sean O'Donnell and featured an exhibition of over 100 photographs from the past 100 years and was.
