West Cork weekend a huge success

REPUBLICANS from all over Ireland and abroad converged on Bandon, West Cork on the weekend of 7 and 8 November for a series of events to commemorate the Manchester Martyrs, Allen, Larkin and O'Brien. The first event began early Saturday morning when a bus load of West Belfast and West Cork republicans were taken on a tour of West Cork which included stops at Cork City Cemetery to pay our respects to republican icons Terence MacSwiney, Tomás Mac Curtain and Tom Barry amongst others. Volunteer Liam McParland Commemoration

19 November 2009

THE 40th anniversary of the death on active service of Belfast Brigade IRA Volunteer Liam McParland was marked by 300 republicans in west Belfast on Sunday. Liam, a quiet, unassuming man and an ardent gaelgeoir, died in a car crash on 6 November 1969 while on IRA business. The commemoration, organised by the Remember Our Volunteers Committee, took place in New Barnsley Crescent where a plaque in Liam's memory was unveiled by Liam Shannon, Chairperson of the National Graves Association. New sculpture honours PJ Branley and Dessie McNulty

ON Sunday 8 November 200 republicans from Donegal and Fermanagh gathered at the spot on the main Ballyshannon/ Donegal Town Road where Sinn Féin members PJ Branley and Dessie McNulty were killed in a car accident exactly a year previous. They were there to remember and to show support for the Branley and McNulty families who had gathered to unveil a sculptured stone erected by the local Sinn Féin Cumann in memory of PJ and Dessie who were two very hard working members of the local Sinn Féin Party and who were killed so tragically going about their republican work on the morning of 9 November 2008.
