Major mobilisation urged for Derry and Antrim commemoration

THE Annual Counties Derry and Antrim Republican Commemoration will take place in Gulladuff on Sunday, 3 August. The commemorative parade will include marching bands and will assemble at the carpark opposite St. Mary's Church, Mayogall at 5pm before making its way to the Garden of Remembrance at Ionad Poblachtach Lár Uladh. A senior republican will deliver the main address. Free article

THE DEATH occurred on 15 July of Frank Kelly. Well known within the republican family and within his own community of Millbrook Lawns in Tallaght, Dublin, Frank was an active Volunteer in Óglaigh na hÉireann during the 1970s and '80s. He continued to be a loyal supporter of the struggle for Irish freedom and the Sinn Féin peace strategy up until his death from cancer. Free article

Plaque to Alo Hand unveiled in Clones

THIS year marks the 50th anniversary of the deaths of three Irish republicans who took up arms against British occupation in the North of Ireland in the 1950s: IRA Volunteer Patrick McManus died in a premature explosion near Swanlinbar, County Cavan; James Crossan, the Cavan Sinn Féin organiser who was assassinated by the RUC on the southern side of the border, also near Swanlinbar; and Aloysius 'Alo' Hand, of North Monaghan, who was killed by British forces at Clontivrim, County Fermanagh.
