SINN FÉIN Dublin City Councillor Christy Burke appeared at the Mahon Tribunal on Tuesday, 26 February, to deny allegations by property developer Tom Gilmartin who told the tribunal that he was one of three men who said they were from the IRA and warned him to stay away from Clondalkin. Blaze at Shell refinery site

A LARGE fire occurred at the site of the controversial proposed Shell refinery in Erris, County Mayo, last Friday, in the woods at Bellinaboy. The flames could be seen from across the estuary in Rossport. Flames were first seen at around 9pm and the fire raged until the next morning when three units of the Mayo Fire Brigade reported that it was extinguished at 4am. Free article

Bogtrotters in Spain

THE 'TI Bogtrotters', a hill-walking group initiated in 2000 by members of Tar Isteach, a republican ex-prisoners' group based in Dublin, recently visited Spain to join the commemorations for the International Brigades and especially the Irish who fell in the battle of Jarama during the Spanish Civil War.
