SINN FÉIN activists turned up at Galway City Hall on Monday, 3 December, to protest at the proposed abolition of the bin charges waiver in Galway City. ÓGRA Shinn Féin National Organiser Barry McColgan has urged Ógra Shinn Féin to get active throughout the month of December to remember POWs who are still held in jail this Christmas. According to McColgan, whilst many protests, leaflet drops and vigils will be highlighting the incarceration of Irish republican POWs, a number of other actions will highlight international POWs. Sinn Féin MEP, Bairbre de Brún has congratulated St Mary's College in Creggan, Derry, on winning this year's all-Ireland photo competition on climate change, which was co-sponsored by the European Parliament and the Departments of Environment, North and South. Students aged 16 to 18 throughout the 32 Counties of Ireland were asked to submit photographs with accompanying captions, based on the theme 'Climate Change - Causes, Effects, Solutions' and the winning entries were selected by an independent panel. OVER a thousand people gathered on 25 November at the annual Kilmichael commemoration in West Cork to hear Sinn Féin Councillor Toireasa Ferris pay tribute to the Tan War heroes. Con O'Callaghan, Chair of the Kilmichael/Crossbarry Committee, opened proceedings by outlining the events of that day, when the West Cork Flying Column, led by Tom Barry, ambushed and killed 18 Auxiliaries in one of the crucial battles of the Tan War. REPUBLICANS from across the south-east gathered in Hugginstown, County Kilkenny, on Friday evening, 23 November, to remember Allen, Larkin and O'Brien, The Manchester Martyrs.
