MacManus back on the campaign trail

Councillor Seán Mac Manus, the Sinn Féin candidate for Sligo/North Leitrim, was discharged from Sligo General Hospital on Monday following treatment for a minor heart attack. Mac Manus expressed gratitude to hospital staff for their professionalism and empathy during his treatment. Free article

In most Western democracies, citizens are supposed to be able to vote for the party that most closely represents their views or their interests, and if that party does not exist, they are entitled to form their own political party and to put forward candidates in the elections. New film documents Monaghan hospital campaign

Ronan Connolly and Declan Reynolds, two amateur, independent filmmakers in Monaghan town have followed the campaign to save Monaghan General Hospital for five years. On 10 May their documentary, entitled Why Won't They Listen?, will be shown for free in the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan town. While the event is non party-political, the filmmakers find themselves having profiled the single biggest political issue in the region. Free article
