Nurses' dispute 40,000 work-to-rule

Sinn Féin Dáil leader and spokesperson on Health and Children Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has called on the 26 County Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney to intervene directly to help to resolve the nurses' dispute. He said the Minister had failed to ensure that the long-standing need for a 35-hour week for nurses was met by the health service employers. Free article

Just a week after the historic agreement between Sinn Féin and the DUP, the first joint initiative undertaken by the First and Deputy First Minister designate saw Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness sign a joint letter telling British Secretary of State Peter Hain and his officials to move out of Stormont Castle. 35th anniversary of Volunteers' deaths in Bawnmore

On 7 April 1972, just after two o'clock in the afternoon, the small nationalist estate of Bawnmore, on the fringes of North Belfast, was rocked by an explosion in a row of garages in Bawnmore Grove. The premature explosion claimed the lives of three young IRA Volunteers - John (Jackie) McErlean, Samuel Hughes and Charles McCrystal - members of 'E' Company, 3rd Battalion, Belfast Brigade Óglaigh na hÉireann.
