DUP forced to apologise to Sinn Féin

In a head turning first for the DUP the party's Mayor of Coleraine Councillor Timothy Deans has apologised to Sinn Féin Councillor Billy Leonard. Deans was forced to apologise to Leonard and admit that he acted against the law when he refused to invite Leonard to last year's Christmas reception, paid for by the ratepayers. Free article

Man loses eye in homophobic attack

A 19-year-old teenager was remanded in custody on Thursday 2 February accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a 20-year-old student from Donegal lost an eye in a homophobic attack in Derry on Sunday 29 January. The Donegal student, who hasn't been named, was punched in the face and knocked to the ground by two men at Clarendon Street in the city centre by two men. Free article

Antrim arson attack was attempted murder

Loyalists have been accused of attempted murder by a man whose home they attacked. The man has also criticised the PSNI who refused to describe the arson attack as sectarian. "The dogs in the streets know the names of the loyalists involved but the PSNI totally ignore these details," he said . Free article

Omagh declares for Irish unity, Strabane will follow

West Tyrone Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has said that last Tuesday night, Omagh District Council officially declared for Irish Unity and that Strabane District Council is almost certain to follow suit next Tuesday. Free article
