Last weekend again saw papers from the O'Reilly media empire engage in spurious attacks against Irish republicans in general and Sinn Féin in particular. The Sunday World and the Sunday Independent again churned out politically-motivated attacks aimed at damaging the party. Free article

Tyrone's fallen heroes remembered

Martin Hurson (right) was the sixth prisoner to die in Long Kesh during the Hunger Strike of 1981. On the 24th anniversary of his death a crowd of more than 500 descended on Galbally to remember the Tyrone man's anniversary, as part of Tyrone Volunteers' Day on Wednesday 13 July. Free article

Dublin Volunteer remembered

21 July 2005

A large crowd of Dublin republicans assembled at Darndale on the northside of the city, on Saturday 16 July for the Annual Pat Cannon commemoration. Cannon, a Volunteer with Oglaigh na hÉireann, was killed with his comrade Peter McElcar from Donegal in a premature explosion near Castlederg on the Donegal/Tyrone border in 1976. Free article
