It recorded profits of €52 million after a loss of €89 million the previous year, even though company sales fell 2% to €1.6 billion. Following a recent meeting of Munster Ógra Shinn Féin in Tralee, activists from every corner of the Cúige recently joined with their comrades from Kerry in demanding the immediate closure of Sellafield. The young political activists made certain they were noticed and their point was made in the town centre of Tralee. Ógra Munster Organiser, James O' Sullivan, said: " It is shocking that the recent hazardous leak at Sellafield was not detected until six months after it occurred. This highlights the lack of safety at Sellafield and has raised concerns among the public. "Sellafield is a serious threat to the public's wellbeing and Ógra will actively campaign for the immediate closure of the Sellafield site." Free article

Ógra Shinn Féin held a spontaneous protest outside the British Army camp in Omagh on Saturday 28 May to highlight the lack of demilitarisation in the Six Counties and in particular the garrison town of Omagh. The day had seen the British Army remove anti-rocket caging from a number of their sangers in Lisanelly and St Lucia Camp. Free article

Presenting a petition against Dublin's summer DART shutdown are: (back) Arthur Morgan TD, Martin Ferris TD, Michael Nolan of Dún Laoghaire Sinn Féin; (front) Wicklow Sinn Fein's David Gahan, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD and Bray Councillor John Brady. Hundreds of signatures were collected to protest the closure of the service at weekends starting from the June Bank Holiday. The weekend DART service will remain off until mid-September, and there will be another closure at Christmas time. In addition to the signatures collected, Brady and Gahan distributed 5,000 leaflets and put up posters in local businesses. Free article
