Dublin-wide housing meetings

It has been said time and time again that the local elections in June are going to come down to a handful of issues, among them housing, health and service charges. In Dublin, housing is fast becoming the most important issue, and Sinn Féin has been quick to address this crisis in the capital city. As well as a citywide campaign, the party has been focusing efforts in individual communities, by holding local housing meetings where concerned members of the public can put their questions to their Sinn Féin representatives. Post Office closures will hurt communities

Fermanagh/South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew MLA says the closure of Post Offices is ripping the heart out of rural and urban communities. She was commenting this week after an announcement that a further 21 post offices across the Six Counties face closure. Free article

Carrickmacross rejects Development Levies

At the March monthly meeting of Carrickmacross Town Council, the members rejected the proposed development contribution scheme on the proposal of Sinn Féin Councillor Matt Carthy, following on decisions by other local authorities in County Monaghan. Carthy said he was delighted the council had voted to reject "these unfair charges". Free article

Bring Them Home

On Sunday 7 March, West Tyrone Ógra Shinn Féin organised a sponsored walk from Gortin village to the top of Mullacairn in aid of the Colombia 3 Bring Them Home Campaign. The walk was well attended by local Ógra activists, along with members of the Bring Them Home Campaign and local MLA Barry McElduff. Free article

RUC chief had loyalist links

RUC Chief superintendent Harry Breen, who was killed by the IRA in March 1989, colluded with loyalist death squads, according to evidence given to the Oireachtas committee considering the Barron report. The revelation came as further evidence emerged of Special Branch collusion with unionist paramilitaries involved in the Dublin/Monaghan bombings. Free article

Collusion Wall unveiled

Sinn Féin West Belfast MLA Bairbre de Brún officially unveiled the Collusion Wall on Beechmount Avenue in West Belfast on Wednesday. "This wall, on which is told the stories of some of the victims of collusion, is an important step in breaking the silence about the true nature of British rule in Ireland," she said. "These are the stories of some of the people targeted by the British state and killed by its agents working with loyalist death squads. Free article
