Ógra member on trumped up charges

Sinn Féin's Barry McElduff has accused the PSNI of conducting a witch hunt against Ógra Shinn Féin after 22-year-old Danny Turnbull from Omagh, County Tyrone, was arrested and charged with "collecting information useful to terrorists". Free article

Derry man could face US sentence of up to 25 years

Sinn Féin and republican ex-prisoner groups are trying to secure the voluntary deportation from the United States of republican former prisoner Don Browne. The 44-year-old Derry man could face a jail sentence of 25 years in America after being arrested minutes after filling out immigration forms at Boston Airport on Thursday 13 November, as he arrived to attend a family wedding. A new deal for Rural Ireland

Sinn Féin this week launched its manifesto on Agriculture and Rural Development, Breaking The Cycle. Vice President Pat Doherty, head of the party's national Agriculture and Rural Development Department, said our agricultural industry and rural communities face many challenges. "CAP reform and the pressures faced by farm families as a result of falling farm incomes are a paramount concern," said Doherty, "and as Sinn Féin is the only all-Ireland party, we are uniquely placed to face these kinds of challenges from a unique perspective. Monaghan hears Great Escape tale

The story of the 1983 Great Escape from Long Kesh was told in Sliabh Beagh in Monaghan on Saturday 17 November to an audience of some 300 people. Councillor Pat Treanor (Clones Town Council) introduced the three speakers, Gerry Kelly, Bik McFarlane and Bobby Storey, all of whom played key roles in the escape. Free article

Statue of Michael Dwyer to be unveiled

A new statue of the famous 1798-1803 United Irishman and rebel leader Michael Dwyer will be unveiled in the Glen of Imaal on Sunday 14 December. The day will begin at 11am with a pike march from the landmark Dwyer-McAllister cottage in Derrynamuck to the site of the new statue, adjacent to the Glen of Imaal bar in Seskin. Free article
