Belfast will recognise the contribution of the Irish language community to the city on Thursday 6 March at 7.30pm when Mayor Alex Maskey will entertain representatives of Irish language groups in the Mayor's parlour. Free article

Vigil for teen death driver victim

Hundreds of people, many of them teenage friends of Ballymurphy teenager Debbie McComb, gathered at the junction of the Whiterock and Springfield Roads on Saturday 1 March for a candle light vigil in her memory. The 15-year-old had been mown down by death drivers a year before to the day. Free article

Moley and Burns honoured

On Sunday 2 March the 15th annual commemoration of Volunteers Brendan Moley and Brendan Burns took place in south Armagh. Almost 1,500 people marched to the monument at Creggan near Crossmaglen, led by a lone piper and the South Armagh Women's Colour Party. Eyewitness Intifada

Caoimhe Butterly has lived and worked in Chiapas and Guatemala but she first came to widespread notice when she made her way as a human shield into Yasser Arafat's compound in Palestine as it was came under Israeli attack in April 2002. In her work with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society since then, she was twice injured - first by shrapnel, then by an Israeli soldier, who shot her in the leg as she was tried to protect a group of Palestinian children on the streets of Jenin Refugee Camp. Now back in Ireland, she has made it her task to speak out about the suffering and struggle of the Palestinian people. Free article

Colombian witness suffers 'memory loss'

The trial of Niall Connolly, Martin McCauley, and Jim Monaghan resumed on Tuesday in the city of Medellin with prosecution witness John Alexander Rodriguez Caviedes (20) giving evidence for the third time. This is the fifth hearing of the trial, which has stopped and started since it began on 4 October 2002. Free article

Sinn Féin leaders visit US for St Patrick's Day

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams will be travelling to the US on 13 March for a series of engagements and will remain there until the 17th. Patten reforms should be introduced in 26 Counties

Speaking this week at a one-day seminar entitled A Human Rights Approach to Policing, organised by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, Sinn Féin's spokesperson on Justice, Aengus Ó Snodaigh, said the Patten proposals for policing in the Six Counties "should be introduced into the 26 Counties".
