Derryman accuses RUC of brutality after attack on family

Derryman John Deery is accusing the RUC of brutality after an incident in the city last Monday 16 April when the RUC arrested him. The man's 18-year-old son Sean and 16-year-old daughter Tina were also attacked and arrested by the RUC. Free article

``You could scarcely credit it, that in these days of a booming economy, I have people coming to my door every week looking for a place to live,'' says Brian Stanley, a town commissioner in Portlaoise. ``There are people who are working two or three jobs, yet who cannot afford a house. People have been on the council housing list for years and have no immediate prospect of getting housed. Some are living in really appalling conditions, paying exorbitant rents. It is a scandal. Sean MacDiarmada commemoration postponed

The Sean MacDiarmada march and commemoration due to be held on 13 May in Kiltyclogher has been postponed due to the continuing risks associated with spread of Foot and Mouth disease. The organising committee will monitor the situation and hope to arrange a suitable alternative event later this year in the North Leitrim village. Free article

McLaughlin opposes North West incinerator
