Ballymacoda Patriot honoured at Kilclooney Wood

The death of the famous East Cork Fenian, Peter O'Neill Crowley, was commemorated on Sunday 2 April 2000 in Kilclooney Wood, which is situated between Mitchelstown and Kildorrery. The very well attended commemoration, which attracted young and old alike, was organised by a locally based community group. A 60-page commemorative booklet for the occasion was also prepared by Patrick Downey. Free article

McGuinness rubbishes Bloody Sunday slur

An attempt by the British military to divert attention away from the fact that British paratroopers killed 14 innocent civilians in Derry in 1972, was how Sinn Féin Assembly member Martin McGuinness dismissed as nonsense the allegation that he may have fired the first shot on Bloody Sunday. Monumental hypocrisy

On 11 April 1991, IRA Volunteer Colum Marks was shot dead in Downpatrick by the RUC. They were congratulated on the success of their operation by the SDLP's Eddie McGrady, who commented that the degree of violence used had been entirely justifiable despite the fact that Marks was unarmed. Shortly after the killing, members of his family and the local community, wishing to honour his memory, erected a white cross on the spot where he died. Free article

The Irish community in Haringey and beyond is saddened at the loss of Bernie Grant, MP for Tottenham. Bernie was a real champion for the rights of black people in Britain and his loss at the early age of 56 is a great blow. Free article
