SDLP rejects memorial

Sinn Fein has failed in a proposal bid to have an extension at the Magherafelt College of Further and Higher Education named after murdered party colleague and college lecturer Councillor Bernard O'Hagan. The motion was rejected by the Nationalist controlled Magherafelt District Council by six unionist votes to four Sinn Fein votes after all four SDLP councillors abstained. Free article

Harvey memorial unveiled

On Sunday 2,000 people gathered at Flynn's junction outside Crossmaglen for the unveiling of a monument to Volunteer Séamus Harvey who was killed 20 years ago. Free article

West Belfast has again been rewarded on its exceptional drive to promote Irish language and culture. In a nationwide competition. Arts and Gaeltacht Minister Michael D Higgins announced in a ceremony in Dublin on Monday 20 January that the West Belfast Glór na nGael group was voted all Ireland winner. They received £9,000 in prize money. Free article
