Aer Lingus staff to ballot again

Aer Lingus management and SIPTU reached an agreement this week so that ground operation staff would have time to cast their votes again on new work practices proposed by the airline. It is understood that representatives of the union and shop stewards will urge their members to accept the new proposed work practices and the results of the ballot are due by 25 April. The planned changes mean that staff would have to work different lengths of shifts and management could move employees around during their shift. The airline management had originally said that they would implement the changes to the work practices regardless of whether the ground staff agreed to them. They also stated that staff that did not co-operate would be suspended. Aer Lingus hope to save €10 million through implementing the proposed changes.
