TWO West of Ireland Volunteers who died on hunger strike in 1940 are to be commemorated by Mayo Sinn Féin.
The ceremonies for Jack McNeela and Tony D’Arcy will be held in the scenic parish of Ballycroy, overlooking Clew Bay, the home and burial plot of Jack McNeela. Last year’s commemoration was held at the grave of Tony D’Arcy in Caherlistrane, County Galway. Sinn Féin MLA Francie Molloy will be the guest speaker.
The commemoration at Claggan Cemetery, Ballycroy, starts at Ballyveeny Bridge at 1pm this Sunday, 30 September.
Mass for the repose of the souls of Jack and Tony will be celebrated at the Church of the Holy Family, Ballycroy, at 11am.
There is an exhibition and refreshments in Ballycroy Community Centre from 12 noon.
Claggan Cemetery is a pre-Famine graveyard and is very fragile ecologically. It is requested that those attending adhere to the directions of stewards in relation to parking and entering the graveyard.
