Other NewsEU conference discusses Irish unityA major one-day conference took place at the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday, dealing with how the EU can assist the process of Irish reunification. The conference brought together academics and MEPs to discuss the issue of partition within EU Member States, focusing on how it can be ended and what practical role the EU can play. It focused particularly on the EU's role in German reunification, and opened up debate on how both Ireland and Cyprus can be reunified and what role the EU should play. A bilingual document entitled EU Support for Irish Reunification was also launched by Bairbre de Brún MEP on Wednesday, as part of the day's events.
