Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness led a Sinn Féin delegation to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Secretary of State Peter Hain in London on Thursday 6 October.

Speaking afterwards Adams described the meeting as "good and positive". It had provided an opportunity to review recent developments and to discuss how progress could be made.

The main focus of discussions was the re-establishment of political institutions in the Six Counties, the need for the British Government to honour commitments on policing, demilitarisation, OTR's and the right of citizens to live free from sectarian harassment.

Sinn Féin presented the British with an equality document and discussions included the wave of sectarian attacks against Catholics by unionist paramilitaries. Gerry Adams said he had also raised the issue of PEACE III funding for the North and border counties.
