THE Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle last week decided that deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness should accept an invitation by Co-Operation Ireland to attend an engagement in Belfast which was also attended by Úachtarán na hÉireann, the Queen of England and First Minister Peter Robinson. The engagement was not connected to the queen’s jubilee events. Free article
Ban on Basque party Sortu lifted

THE BAN on Basque pro-independence party Sortu has been lifted by Spain’s Constitutional Court. The move means that Sortu should be able to contest regional elections scheduled for next year. Free article
Basque victims launch ‘Glencree’ reconciliation initiative

PEOPLE who lost loved ones to pro-Spanish death squads, Spanish state forces and the armed separatist group ETA came together for the first time to launch a peace and reconciliation initiative in Donostia in the Basque Country on 18 June. Free article

ONE of the first leaders of the Irish people to lose his life in the Civil War in 1922 was Cathal Brugha TD who for many years had been a key figure in the IRA, Sinn Féin and Conradh na Gaeilge. Free article
Death of Joe O’Boyle, County Antrim

JOE O’BOYLE, a life-long Irish republican and former Blanket Man in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh, passed away after a short illness on Saturday evening, 19 May, at Antrim Area Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 64. Free article
Death of ‘Wee Rosie’ Carlin, Derry City

ROSIE CARLIN, who died on 13 May, was one of the longest-serving Sinn Féin members in Derry City. Rosie was a founding member of the Eamonn Lafferty Sinn Féin Cumann in Creggan and throughout her life was renowned for her quiet determination to defend the downtrodden in society. Free article
