The most important thing to state about the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic in 2006 is that it is unfinished business. We don't have a United Ireland - yet. We don't have a society where all the children of the nation are cherished equally - yet. But we in Sinn Féin believe that we can achieve those aims and create a better society for everyone on this small island - Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter, people of all religions and none, Irish citizens and new communities in our country alike. IRA Easter 2006 statement

The following IRA statement was received by An Phoblacht this week. "This Easter marks the 90th anniversary of the 1916 Rising, a turning point in the history of Ireland. "Irish republicans remember with pride those who gave their lives that extraordinary Easter and the leaders executed in the weeks that followed. "The leadership of Óglaigh na hÉireann extends solidarity to the families of all of our patriot dead from every generation and in particular those from this phase of struggle." Free article

Assembly: Republican focus is on formation of Executive

13 April 2006

Sinn Féin is to attend the reconvened Six County Assembly in May. The announcement was made last Saturday, 8 April during a meeting of the party's Ard Chomhairle in Dublin. Party President Gerry Adams said that the focus in doing so will be the formation of a power sharing government on the basis set out in the Good Friday Agreement. Free article

Death of Siobhán O'Hanlon

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP has expressed deepest condolences to the family of Siobhán O'Hanlon who died during Tuesday night last after a long battle against cancer. Free article

Donaldson death - serious questions for PSNI

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has said that a report in the Sunday Business Post alleging that one of two men who exposed the whereabouts of British agent Denis Donaldson was a former Special Branch officer raised serious questions for the PSNI. Free article

Ógra disrupt 1916 auction

13 April 2006

On Wednesday memebers of Ógra Shinn Féin disrupted the controversial auctioning of important Irish historical artefacts at Adams auctioneers in Dublin. Ógra members entered the auction and distributed leaflets opposing the selling of important historical documents on the open market. They were then evicted from the auction and two people were arrested. The protest continued outside. Free article
