Adair held as loyalists implode

Belfast's Shankill Road remains tense after loyalist rivalry escalated into bitter feuding between the UVF and UDA this week. In the ensuing violence, two loyalists were shot dead by the UVF, ten were wounded by the UDA and around 30 PUP and UVF supporters were driven from their homes, include UVF leader Gusty Spence. New loyalist `hit list' targets up to 80 nationalists

Nationalists and republicans have again been warned to remain vigilant after a new hit list containing the names and details of up to 80 people was found last week during an RUC and British Army raid on farm buildings in Clough, Co. Down. Free article
Stevens raids Army HQ

Detectives working for the Stevens Inquiry into collusion mounted a raid on the British Army Headquarters at Thiepval Barracks in Lisburn last Thursday, 17 August and recovered thousands of classified intelligence documents. A number of these are believed to relate to the killing of solicitor Pat Finucane and the alleged role of British military intelligence in facilitating his assassination. Free article
Sinn Féin blasts Flanagan's opimism

In a staunch warning to the British government, Sinn Féin's Mitchel McLaughlin has blasted remarks made by the RUC Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan during last Friday's final RUC passing out parade. Free article
US Senator visits South Armagh

The South Armagh Farmers and Residents Committee (SAFRC) hosted a visit to the area by US Senator Chris Dodd, a Democrat from Connecticut. As a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he has been active in the peace process and felt it necessary to visit South Armagh on a fact-finding mission to see first hand the British aspect of the Good Friday Agreement.
