SF Councillor assaulted by RUC

A Sinn Féin Councillor in Armagh city is to take legal action against the RUC after they assaulted him, raided his home, terrorised his children and arrested him. Councillor Seán McGirr said people in Armagh were ``disgusted'' at the behaviour of the RUC in the weekend incident. Free article

Portadown loyalists ignore Drumcree death

Loyalist intimidation in Portadown will continue, according to local Orange Order spokesperson David Jones. Commenting following the death of an RUC officer fatally injured by a blast bomb during a loyalist riot in Portadown last month, Jones said, ``unfortunately when you are standing up for liberties sometimes the cost of these liberties is very high.'' Roslea remembers its martyrs

We arrive there suddenly, after an hour of searching, driving through the winding roadways of this most eastern edge of rural Fermanagh. A sharp curve in the road and then unexpectedly we are there. A monument to Fergal O'Hanlon and Sean South lies at the crossroads where they died. The green of native deciduous woodlands, offset by a more recent addition of grey pine forestry, overshadows the spot. The sky is overcast. At the crossroads signposts to Fivemiletown, Brookeborough and Roslea tell us we are six miles from anywhere. In such a deserted place the repetition of six, six, six adds to our sense of foreboding. Relatives demand truth from NIO
